Goolwa Aquatic Club hosted the 2019 Binks Marine Optimist Frostbite regatta over the June long weekend. Fifty-four junior sailors from clubs across the state (and one interstate visitor) turned up for two days of fun competition in the Optimist class dinghy. Skippers were divided into four fleets based on skill and experience, ranging from entry level Orange Fleet through to experienced Open Fleet sailors.

GAC Sailing was well represented, with seven competitors across the Green, Intermediate and Open divisions.

In the Green Fleet, Sam Quilliam finished in 4th place despite missing the Saturday morning session due to other commitments; his performance for the remainder of the series would have seen him in the medals. Alex Wilson finished in an impressive 5th place, with Lucas Byrnes just behind in 7th and receiving a Race Officer's award.

Vivienne Zufferey continued her winning streak - after successes in Green Fleet last season, she took 1st place in her first regatta in Intermediate Fleet with a dominant performance including eight wins from eleven starts. Evelyn Wilson finished in 6th place after retiring from the last session; notably, the former SA Green Fleet champion had been in 3rd place after seven of the eleven races with consistently strong sailing.

Kelly Steele and Cleo Hart stepped up to Open Fleet for the first time this regatta. Kelly finished in 12th place overall (2nd SA female behind a very consistent Sailor Cowen of Largs Bay Sailing Club who finished in 5th place) with two 6ths her best individual results. Cleo finished in 14th place and received the Race Officer's Award for the Open Fleet. The Open Fleet championship was won by Charlie Piro from Brighton Seacliff Yacht Club.
