Country Fire Service (CFS) crews were called to Randell Road on Hindmarsh Island in the early hours of Monday, June 10 due to a burn-off flaring up.
A report of the fire was received about 2am, which a CFS spokeswoman said was a "privately owned pine slash/fuel reduction fire" which had been lit by the property owner "some weeks ago".
"With the strong winds on this night, embers got into the adjacent standing pines and lit up the grass on the edge of said pines," the spokeswoman said.
"However as the fire was getting into the pines from the grass it was self-extinguishing because of the wet pine duff and lack of wind in the pine forest."
Five CFS trucks attended the scene and remained there until just before 5am, ensuring the fire did not spread further. SA Police also attended.
There was no threat to homes.
