Encounter Bay scored first through Crispin in the game against McLaren. Gill for McLaren replied and led by five points at quarter time.

Bays had the chance to really take control in the second term. Karpany was in everything and Marshall was dangerous up forward. They both goaled as did Baldock and Nelson. McLaren could not score a major for the quarter and Bays led 5.5 to 2.4 at the long break.

Bays completely dropped out of the game for the entire third quarter. McLaren had Ellis dominating. Grimley goaled and Bays lost concentration. McLaren had goals from Ellison and Wakefield, as McLaren went into three quarter time seven points in front.

Any hope of a Bay revival was put to rest within a few minutes in the final term when Ellis kicked truly. Wakefield marked again and his shot sailed through the big sticks.

Fraser Tonkin goaled, but McLaren replied. Karpany who had been probably Bay's best, managed to keep his team's chances alive when he kicked a couple of goals, but time ran out. McLaren won 10.11 to Bays 8.6.

The Bays best footy is pretty good, but overall Saturday was disappointing. The Tonkin brothers once again played well. Baldock was good in patches, mainly late in the game when it was too late. Karpany with 3 goals kept Bays in touch when the game was falling apart, while Bonnes and Sweetman tried hard all day.

McLaren's best were Ellison, Wakefield, Matthews and Ellis.
