A GOLFER ON A MISSION: Victor Harbor High School student Charlie Nobbs will compete in a golf championship in the United States.

There are so many talented sports people among the Fleurieu Peninsula community.

The latest to be unearthed is the supremely talented young golfer Charlie Nobbs.

Charlie has a handicap of four and plays at the McCracken Golf Club and the Vines Golf Club at Reynella.

The 13-year-old Victor Harbor High School student will be going to North Carolina in July/August to play in the World Golf Under 14 championships.

Charlie was awarded this opportunity after being selected to play in Sydney in the US Kid's Australian Open where the top five qualified to go to the United States to compete in the championships.

Charlie finished third and the two that finished in front of him were from South Africa and Victoria.

Charlie exudes confidence and an intelligence beyond his years and seems well grounded to take on the best that world golf can offer in his age group.

Charlie is very excited on the direction his golf is going.

"It is going to be great to play in the US and we will be playing at Pinehurst number two, which has been a venue for the US Open," Charlie said.

In 2018, Charlie Nobbs was the top South Australian in his age group.

He won the State Golf Championships played in Adelaide and knows this is the next big step to fulfill his many goals.

"I have been and I am working very hard on my game. I am unsure what the competition will be like at the championships, but I am very excited and looking forward to the challenge," Charlie said.

"My goal is to turn pro and get to the Unites States, so this is the perfect stepping stone."

Charlie understands that playing at this event could open many doors for the local young golfer.

"This is a great opportunity as College scouts will be at the championship, so it is a chance to play very well in front of the right people," Charlie said.

Nothing can prepare a 13-year-old precisely on taking on the best in the United States of America, but Charlie is undergoing his own practicing and training.

He is playing Pennant golf and hitting the golf courses as often as possible to fine tune his game.

Charlie will be heading to the US in the coming days, as the event will be on July to August and it will be the event of Charlie's lifetime.

Whether it be golf, netball, football, archery, soccer, basketball, hockey, bowls, cricket, tennis or surf life saving, sport offers so much for not just the elite, but for even the individual who just wants to participate.

But gifted sports people such as Charlie Nobbs are special and when he swings a club in earnest at Pinehurst he will swing it with the Fleurieu Peninsula behind him.
