The Bays were up and about early in their clash with Victor Harbor.

Karpany and Marshall combined to find Toole for the first goal. Marshall again became involved to give Costello another and Bays were looking good. Victor replied with their first, but Marshall and Barrett extended the margin.

Sam Basham for the Roos was looming large and goaled. Then it was Davey at his elusive best, slipping away and bagging two goals, transferring the pressure back on the Bays.

Quarter time scores were Victor 5.1 to Bays 5.0.

In the second, Victor bombarded their forward line and the Bay boys had no answer to the big bodies and strong marking of Basham and Alleway. Davey was great at ground level and added three goals to his tally.

Victor led by 29 points at half time.

The third term saw Bays fight back. Marshall and Toole were in fine form for the Eagles as they clawed their way back into the game and closed the gap. Extraordinary accuracy by the Roos had them leading 15.2 to 11.7 at the last break.

It was good football to watch , but the Bays could not overhaul their opponents and the final score was Victor 19.2 to Bays 14.10.

Marshall (5 goals) and Toole (4 goals) were strong points for Bays and Illingworth, Hamish Tonkin, Davidson, Davis-Neale and Bonnes battled against superior odds. For Victor, Sam Basham (4 goals) was best on ground with Davey (6 goals) and McKay.
