Weekend and overnight work by SA Water saw a leak on a major water main in Middleton repaired by Monday morning. The leak, discovered on Friday, was on a large pipe which supplied water to Middleton, Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island.
Engineers and technical specialists weighed up solutions on Saturday and a collaborative approach to the complex repairs saw crews dis-assembling sections of the footbridge running over the top and removing concrete, encasing the pipe.
SA Water's Colin Bell said alternate water supplies and information were made available before the repairs on Sunday night.
"Our people delivered around 200 casks of water to customers with special care requirements and were on hand to offer an alternate supply of drinking water for the community at the Middleton Tavern and Goolwa Aquatic Club, while organising water tankers for some local business facilities to see them through," he said.
The team worked as quickly and carefully as possible to reduce the length of the water supply interruption and water was filling pipes again by Monday morning.
SA Water will further assess the water main ahead of a potential upgrade.
