In very cold conditions the Willunga demons came to Goolwa Oval with very few worries. The score probably didn't reflect the effort by the Magpies, but in the end it was Willunga with ease, running out winners by 122 points.
The first term was a clear indication of where the game was headed as Willunga got off to a flyer with an 8 goal to 1 term.
The Magpies lone goal came through Robinson but he soon joined Grandsen on the sidelines with day ending injuries.
Altus was in everything and Hoffman continued his stellar season, while Burnett reaped the rewards up front with some classy finishes. Willunga by 45 at the first change with scores at 1.0 to 8.3.
Although outscored by a goal, the Magpies steadied the ship in the second term as the two Fry boys got on the scoreboard. James Fry was in everything whether back or forward and Cinc and Stoldt began to win enough of the ball.
Willunga still managed 4 for the term and always looked likely as Burdett got another. Bass and Hunt used their size to chime in. The match was seemingly over at half time, but a spark remained alive for the home side. The margin sat at 55 points at the main change, 4.0 to 12.7.
The Magpies again through Cinc with some solid work from Wiese and Cuthbert, were able to get the first for the term and in icy conditions, and the home fans were vocal.
But from this point on, it was a barrage of goals as Willunga kicked them from everywhere. Bass, Hunt, Haskett and Stanfield created panic in the air and the likes of Altus, Lee and Hutchens made the most of it.
Goals again to Burdett, Hunt and a dribbler by Pacillo saw Willunga power to a huge lead.
An after the siren kick to James Fry was a exclamation mark on his game and the Demon's finished the term 84 points up and looking for blood. Scores were 7.3 to 20.9.
The last quarter was again mostly one way traffic. The Magpies had good efforts by plenty of youngsters but were out gunned.
Mitch Jonas was able to get his first for the club and it was great to see the whole team get to him in what was really the only highlight for Goolwa in the quarter as Willunga tore apart the Magpies with another 8 goal term. Burdett the star of the show with his seventh.
In the end, it was a pretty typical clash between top and bottom at this time of year. The Demons were clinical and looked to get through unscathed as they went top the ladder with a 122 point win thanks to the work of a plethora of contributors. Final scored were Goolwa/Port Elliot 9.5 (59) to Willunga's 28.13 (181).
Burdett was the stand out with excellent games from Hoffman and Altus as well as Lee, Haskett and Hutchens. For the Magpies, they'd be thrilled with the form of James Fry, while Cinc also continued his very solid year and another youngster in Payne was handy.
