Over the weekend, Adelaide played host to the next leg of the 2019 Super 8 Boxing Series. The series comprises of eight boxing divisions with four boxers in each division from each state, as well as New Zealand.

Each competitor fights three times in three days, as part of a round robin competition, with the overall points standing awarding the individual and team champions.

The highly competitive series attracted some of the best boxers from around Australia and New Zealand.

Representing the South Australian Scorpions were the Victor Harbor Boxing Club's Laura Wright and Fred Zziwa.

Both Laura and Fred boxed exceptionally across all of their bouts, competing against very strong opponents, with mixed results on the judge's scorecards.

Fred will travel to Brisbane in two weeks time to compete in the Queensland Golden Gloves Championships, and both he and Laura, along with several other Victor Harbor boxers will compete in the State Championships this coming September.

The Victor Harbor Boxing Club has gone from strength to strength after being named South Australia's Best Country Club last year and has continued to turn out talent.

Coach Mark Nethercott said the success is a credit to everyone involved at the club from fitness participants to competitors.

"We have a highly dedicated group of people and it's great to see the improvement in them each week," he said.
