Alexandrina Council are currently preparing an agenda paper for next week's council meeting (August 19) seeking endorsement to undertake public consultation, regarding the development of the Goolwa Oval as a possible alternative to the Goolwa North Sporting Precinct, which was previously endorsed by Council.
Council's elected members were recently informed of this at a briefing on July 8. A presentation was given at the briefing which outlined the Goolwa Oval Masterplan objectives.
Council have previously developed a masterplan for the Goolwa North Sporting Precinct, however in this presentation it was noted that "development in the Goolwa North growth area has been slow to emerge and timing is yet to be determined."
The community has instead pushed that Alexandrina Council consider the redevelopment of the existing Goolwa Oval as an alternative solution. This development would potentially include an "integrated, multi-use sporting clubroom facility that caters for football, cricket, netball tennis, hockey and other ancillary sports."
If council endorses public consultation at their next meeting, discussions would focus on what look this development may take on.
This will include discussion around options concerning the construction of a multi-use sporting clubroom facility.
Also on the agenda would be upgraded and expanded tennis and netball playing courts, cricket playing and training infrastructure and new dedicated lighting.
