The staff at Yankalilla Post Office have been recognised for excellence in customer service at the Australia Post Licensee Awards.

The office was named the best for South Australia and Western Australia, and came second place nationally.

The award is for the customer service offered and Post Office operations, along with the site's contribution to the community.

Australia Post state general manager Donna Vecchio congratulated the Yankalilla Post Office on their win.

"These awards acknowledge the hard work our licensed partners commit to communities and Australia Post. It's only fitting that we recognise and celebrate the wonderful service the Yankalilla Post Office provides its customers every day," Ms Vecchio said.

During Stamp Collecting Month, the office has been livened up with plants and other garden-related props, licensee Natalie Laverick said.

"We chatted to our local nursery and they kindly provided some native plants including bush foods such as muntries, salt bush and lemon myrtle to display. I have also sourced a bee hotel and nesting boxes from the Normanville Natural Resource Centre," she said.

"We have partnered with our local council. The council provided a worm farm which we are running a competition with entry for any customer that purchases stamps in store during August."

The top five post offices in SA/WA were Yankalilla, Edinburgh RAAF, Burra, Yorketown and Edithburgh.
