Many charitable organisations would not be able to survive without the support from local businesses, sponsors and of course our caring and generous community.

One such organisation that relies heavily upon donations and proceeds from fundraising events, is Riding for the Disabled at Victor Harbor.

RDA is a statewide charity providing horse riding and associated activities to children and adults with a wide range of disabilities.

There are many benefits including an enjoyable recreational activity that is very therapeutic for those with intellectual disabilities, autism, muscular dystrophy, as well as vision and hearing impairment along with various behavioral conditions.

RDA has been giving pleasure to many disabled and disadvantaged young people for years and the Association is always looking for volunteers who will help out in different areas of the organisation.

Fund raisers planned for August include a barbecue at the Bunnings Store on Adelaide Road Victor Harbor on Sunday August 25 between 10am and 4pm.

As well as a bus trip to Monarto Zoo on Wednesday August 28.

For more information on the bus trip contact Victor Tours at 10 Bond Avenue Victor Harbor or phone Claire Fuller from the fund raising team on 0411 282 955.

The RDA at Victor Harbor is also hosting a film night at the Victa Cinemas on Thursday September 26 at 7pm for a 7.30 start.

The movie will be "Ride Like a Girl", the story of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

Patrons will be offered a glass of bubbly and chocolate upon arrival and tickets are now available at Swans Pharmacy on Victoria Road or from the theatre during opening hours.

The cost is $18 with proceeds going to RDA Victor Harbor.

Members of the RDA Victor Harbor will also cater for the official luncheon at the Port Elliot show on Saturday October 12.

This is one of their major fundraisers for the year when they provide a delicious home cooked meal for the invited guests on the day.
