What a start to the Great Southern Football League finals. It lived up to the build up we have all seen during the 18 minor rounds. Nothing separates the top five teams in the competition and nothing separated the teams on the weekend.
On the Saturday, it looked like Mount Compass were going to make a gulf between them and the rest, but a seven goal burst in 15 minutes by Langhorne Creek changed everything and the Hawks earn the right to meet minor premier Willunga on Saturday at Myponga oval.
Mount Compass now have to take on Victor Harbor in a knockout final at Strathalbyn, after the Roos finished McLaren's season in a great game of football at Langhorne Creek.
However the Roos will have to tidy up their goal kicking if they are to worry the Dogs. Twenty six points is wasteful and at the start of the last term the door was ajar for McLaren to steal the match. The Roos had the answers when needed and get to fight another day.
The second semi final at Myponga will be a fantastic game with the Demons well rested and prepared to take on the Hawks.
When it was needed it was the cream rising to the top in the qualifying final. Sellar, Perrey, Kellock, Helyar, Derham, Warren and Matt Dominish turned the heat up and when they are dominating, it is all over for any opposition.
Mitch Portlock will have Willunga ready to go and would have watched with interest how the Dogs dominated the Hawks for three quarters.
Mail Medallist Daniel Bass will have great duel with Sellar and Beath, Miegel, Burdett, Renney, Hoffmann, Alexopoulos and Hutchens are tough runners.
The height of the Demons will worry the Creek too with Standfield, Haskett, Ficken, McDonlad, Cook and Collier. They have so much flexibility with their list, which will keep Hawk's coach Clint Godwin on his toes.
Kiss Of Death - Langhorne Creek by 14 points.
In the first semi final at Strathalbyn, Victor Harbor meet the mighty Bulldogs. No next week for the loser.
In tough conditions last week, Mount Compass need not worry about their form as they did so many things right. They just stopped in the last term and I mean stopped. Can't do that in finals.
Hoban, Brokenshire, Hunter, Tom Corbett, Tom Vitkunas, Camac, Creek, Ruddock and Copestick will give the talented forward line plenty of supply, but the Victor defence is holding firm with Bartlett, Lang, Bartram, Hartshorne and Fletcher.
The talent of Dowling and Wade adds another dimension to the Roo structure and Connors can make the impossible look easy.
Kiss Of Death - Victor Harbor by 7 points.
Also on Sunday is the Mini Colts grand final. Well done to McLaren and Encounter Bay for making the big day.
