It was a great night of badminton last Thursday in the Preliminary Final at the Investigator College Victor Harbor Campus Performing Arts and Sports Centre.

Victor Podiatry Centre got away to a flying start as Sharna Brown/Sam Traforti combined very well together to win their first match 21-7.

Fleurieu Milk Company's Harris Tan/Tim Mignanelli and also Beth Fidock/Robert Jones were both able to score 7 point victories (21-14), in their respective doubles matches to keep in touch on the overall points tally.

In finals, as the stakes are higher, there is a perceived added pressure and neutral umpires are association policy.

Natalie Laaks-Newcombe (one of the associations most junior members) was not phased and did an awesome job as she umpires what turned out to be the closest game of the night with Estelle and Simon Brayford defeating Beth/Jacob Dugmore 27-25.

Victor Podiatry Centre outscored their opponents 99 points to 76 in the A Grade doubles, 108 to 93 in the B Grade Doubles and 94 to 89 the C Grade doubles.

The points difference was 43 with only the two singles games remaining.

Fleurieu Milk Company won both the singles with Jacob Dugmore achieving a terrific 21-18 win over the experienced and wily Simon Brayford and Harris Tan was able to defeat young gun Sam Traforti 21-14.

This week's highly anticipated grand final shapes up to be a very tight contest between Hamper Warehouse and Victor Podiatry Centre.

Shuttlecock's tip is that the match may be decided by less than 10 points!

It will be a great battle between two even teams and a showcase of the badminton association. The skill of the teams and the determination to win will be on show, so a good crowd is expected.

All players and members are asked to please bring a plate of finger food (sweet or savoury), for a shared supper on the evening as the battle for the 2019 premiership takes place.

The gym will be open before 7pm with matches to begin from 7.20pm onwards.

The Great Southern Badminton Association will celebrate another successful season at their 2019 presentation dinner to be held at the Victor Harbor Golf Club on Saturday, September 21, with a 6.30pm start.
