Lindsay Thomas played 212 AFL games for North Melbourne and seven for Port Adelaide in a distinguished career.
Now the elusive former AFL forward will face another challenge, as he has been appointed A Grade Playing Coach of the Yankalilla Football Club for 2020.
Thomas succeeds Joel Kay who has stepped down from the role and will concentrate on playing for the Tigers.
Before being recruited from the Port Adelaide Magpies to the Kangaroos in 2007 and enjoying a 12 year career in the AFL, Thomas won the SANFL Under 17 Medal for the best player in that competition.
The signing of Thomas is a big boost for the Great Southern Football League, as it continues to be a destination point for top players.
Thomas' challenge will be to end the premiership drought of 35 years at Tigerland. Yankalilla have not won an A Grade premiership since 1985.
