The Governor gave a heart warming story detailing his journey to Australia from Communist Vietnam in the 1970s. He emphasised the value of community to the Forum and wished everyone well with their conference.

Forum attendees then learnt of new initiatives in Community Philanthropy as well as exploring and sharing their own journeys.

The Forum included a trip to the Murray Mouth with Spirit of the Coorong Tours, where attendees discussed environmental grants.

In an effort to give something back to the community, the Forum shifted venues in the afternoon to a public session at Goolwa's Centenary Hall where sports person Erin Phillips shared her story with 160 Fleurieu residents in a Q&A session.

The National Community Foundations Forum is Australia's premier conference for community foundations and stakeholders from within and beyond the community philanthropy ecosystem.

The Forum is an opportunity to learn, network, partner, build collective voice and impact and to reconnect with the inspiration and motivation at the heart of community philanthropy. It has been held annually for approximately 15 years.

The 2019 Forum was jointly hosted by the Fleurieu Community Foundation and Australian Community Philanthropy. This year's theme 'Better Together' affirms the central role of relationships, collaboration and mutual support in lives and work.

It speaks of solidarity, inclusiveness and belonging. It emphasises the importance of community in community philanthropy.

"At the Forum, participants explored how we can leverage our essential human need for connectedness to strengthen the impact of community philanthropy," Brad Butler said.
