The deadline for Alexandrina's Citizen of the Year Awards nominations is fast approaching, but there is still time to put forward the names of those in the community who make a real difference.
Nominations will close next week at 5pm, November 15 and can be made in a variety of ways. Nominate online via: citizenoftheyear.com.au/nominate or by post to council at PO Box 21 Goolwa 5214. Alternatively, you can email: firstname.lastname@example.org or submit a nomination in person at council's Goolwa or Strathalbyn offices.
Three categories exist for the awards which are presented annually at Australia day ceremonies in Goolwa and Strathalbyn.
The awards formally recognise a Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year.
Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes said he takes great pride in presenting the awards.
"It is our wonderful community members who give our region its identity and warm and hospitable reputation," he said.
"Being a rural district, we rely on hard-working, selfless groups and individuals to mould our sense of place and community spirit.
"I would encourage everyone to think about those who they see making a difference in our community and nominate them for the 2019 Citizen of the Year. It is really a special and unique way to acknowledge their contribution to our society."
