A driver has passed away after her car collided with a tree and burst into flames at Hindmarsh Valley on Monday morning, November 11.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Nettle Hill Road, near the intersection of Hindmarsh Tiers Road, just before 5am.
Sadly the driver, a woman aged in her 40s, died at the scene. It is believed she is not a Fleurieu Peninsula resident.
Police closed both lanes of Nettle Hill Road between Hindmarsh Tiers Road and Reservoir Road until the afternoon while the scene was cleared and Major Crash investigated.
The woman's death is the state's 95th this year, compared to 63 at the same time last year.
She was one of six people who passed away on South Australian roads in five days, a fact SA Police Superintendent Bob Gray said was "completely unacceptable".
"People need to understand the devastation six families are feeling as a result of what's occurred since Thursday. It's not just a number," he said.
"Families are torn apart, communities are torn apart. There's a massive human cost to losing your life or being seriously injured on our roads."
