Over seventy people gathered at Encounter Hall on Sunday, November 24 for the book launch of One Empowered Woman.

The book tells the story of Lyn Barnes, a well-known local personality who is founder and director of Believe, Educate and Empower Inc. (BEE).

Lyn's sister from Melbourne and her brother from Mildura arrived at the launch to surprise Lyn, making for a happy and teary reunion.

Pastor Robert Bailey introduced the City of Victor Harbor Mayor, Dr Moira Jenkins who discussed her love for biographies, especially from interesting women.

Dr Jenkins said such stories empower her, and told Lyn she was a 'true leader' in the Victor Harbor community.

The book's author Margot Ogilvie, spoke to the group about how the book came into being, and announced that all profits from launch sales would be donated to further the work of BEE in helping people struggling with poverty, education, and health issues in Tanzania.

Lyn gave the audience a sneak peak at the book's content, describing how was a shy child with low self-esteem, and how her faith empowered her to rise up and lead a team changing lives in Tanzania.
