Victor Harbor Bowls
Night Owls competition has been broken up into 2 divisions based on performances in the first half of the season. 'OddBalls' just edged out 'Power' to win this week. Third were 'McCracken Maulers' with 'Coasters' fourth. Good money was raised for bushfire victims at this week's round.
In club championship news, the Ladies Triples has been decided. Winners were the experienced combination of Shirley Koch, Sue Wilkins and Lyn Thatcher. Creditable runners-up were comparatively new bowlers Di Hoppo, Eileen Wreford and Kay Hanna, who would have gained some valuable experience getting to the final. Well done all!
As far as Saturday Pennant was concerned, it appears that Victor players may have eaten too much turkey over the Christmas period, as all but one team were unsuccessful. Div 1 Blue recorded a 26 shot win over Port Elliot at home mainly due to a brilliant 23 shot win to Ernie Elf's rink with all players running hot. Len Basford's rink also bowled well with 'Poppy' Waller a stand out at second.
Div 1 White travelled to Strathalbyn and found the greens not to their liking and went down convincingly. The one highlight was a five shot win to Nik Pippos' rink. Div 2 were away to Willunga and came home scoreless with losses to all 3 rinks.
Div 3 played Myponga at home and, once again, got close with a win to Jeff Hollitt, a draw to Kevin Hoppo, but a loss to Ian Sellars. Surely they must break through soon! Finally, Div 5 were also at home to Myponga and went down by the narrowest of margins, a one shot loss. Leith Davies had a good 6 shot win and Craig Jacobs lost by one shot.
A good field of social bowlers was in attendance on Saturday afternoon and players enjoyed both the weather and the company. Anyone looking for a game can ring the club on 8552 1380 between 9 and 10 on Saturday morning.
Finally, the club farewelled two highly respected and great club members in Elliot Marshall and Peter Haddrick at funerals over the past week.
