Goolwa Bowling Club
With no Saturday pennants this weekend due to the GSBA Champion of Champions 4's being played, the situation remains static across all divisions until we get back on the greens next week before another break the weekend after.
On January 20, the Club held the SHAW Family Invitation 4's, which was well patronised. Twenty eight teams taking part on a rather unexpectedly fine day, after the overnight downpour of some 40mm of rain, which initially threatened the day, but by the morning all fear had disappeared.
Lunch provided by the hard working crew of volunteers once again was superb.
There were number of winners on the day, starting with 1st game winners being; L.Jaquier, M.Sekulitch, M.Dodds and B.Trenorden, followed by 2nd game winners; G.Dutton, J.Anderson, M.Price and P.Ratcliffe.
The overall winners of the day was the team for Yankalilla skippered by; John Stone with J.Hignett, C.Elsworthy and G.Cooper. Strathalbyn team came in second with a Victor Harbor team in third place.
On Wednesday, Janaury 22 was the popular "Triple 8's" day, with some 38 teams from Spalding, Victor Harbor, Strathalbyn, Port Elliot, Yankalilla and Goolwa taking part in the Goolwa Camping & Tourist Park day, with the winners on A green being; Bob Weir and Terry Weller.
On B green winners were B.Martin and A. Bogusz, and on C green it was Vic Butvila & Danny Fitzgerald.
Ladies Thursday 1st Division side still appears to be in cruise mode, returning from Strathalbyn with maximum points. Div.2 travelled to Victor Harbor returning with 10 points this week.
Div.3 travelled to McLaren Vale to play the "Blue" side and did extremely well to come home with 10 points.
Ladies Championship Pairs final was played this week, with the winning pair being Jan Southby and Anne Wood prevailing over the pairing of J.Jacobs and Chris Green. Very well done Ladies for a fantastic grand final.
Victor Harbor Bowls
Weather permitting, the finals of the Ladies' and Men's Championship singles will be played at 1pm on Friday January 31.
At the time of writing, the Ladies final will be contested by Sandra Nash and Lyn Thatcher.
In the Men's final, Rob Wilkins is through and will meet the winner of the semi-final clash between Stu Taylor and Ken Mableson.
Night Owls - McCracken Maulers brought their 'A' game and won the night on 30+21, with 'Wine Not 1' second on 30+7, and 'West End Boys' finishing third on 29+12.
Conditions were conducive to good bowling and many teams were very competitive.
Thursday Ladies Pennant - Div 1 were away to Yankalilla and were pleased to come away with 10 points courtesy of wins to the rinks of Shirley Koch and Sue Wilkins and a narrow loss to Lyn Thatcher.
Div 2 played Goolwa at home and managed only 2 points with a sound win to Joy Fuller's four.
Div 3 travelled to Port Elliot and finished up with an enthralling tie after a win to Di Hoppo and a corresponding loss to Jan Pippos. Five points were awarded to each team.
Super Triples - A number of visitors from other clubs went home richer last Thursday courtesy of club sponsors Bremerton.
First place went to the combination of Dean Clohessy, John McNamara and Ron Pope on 58+24 followed by Peter Ratcliffe, Barry Page and Mick Price on 58+21.
Finishing third were Mike Trow, Dennis Wright and Bill May (off cruising soon) and WOL were John Manifold, John Purvis and Ron Gebert.
The Australia Day long weekend meant no Pennant games on Saturday, but a good field turned up for social bowls. Ring the club on 8552 1380 on Saturday morning if you are looking for a game of bowls in the afternoon.
Encounter Bay Bowls
The Bay 1000 was sponsored by Bendigo Bank. The winners of Div 1 were Marg Mayfield, Paul Sunman and Barry Clarke - EB Trio - with 56 plus 10, 2nd were Bushmates - Sue Riches, Ian Riches and Kevin Fuller on 55 plus 12, 3rd were Joy Reachers - Nancy May, Sandy Nash and Joy Fuller 0n 53 plus 10.
WOL were Brothers in Arms - John McNamara, John Colligan and Brian Chigwidden on 28 p lus 8.
The winners of Div 2 were the Thunderbolts - Mike Brew, Geoff Berg and Bob Siostrom on 57 plus 33.
2nd were Eldorada - Marlene Richman, Will Hayles and Charlie Norman on 57 plus 24.
3rd were the Chalkers - Peter Bevan, Vicki Roberts and Doug Pudney on 57 plus 18.
WOL were Brown Ants - John Bloc, Mick Dodds and Ant Tailor on 29 plus 10.

TOOP MOTORS RAA NIGHT OWLS - On Wednesday, January 22, 2020 the eleventh round of night owls was played .
The weather was fine. .
Rink of the week 22/01/2020 was the team UNBIASED LEGENDS - 31 + 22.
Scotch on the Rocks are still well in the lead on 232 with Lakers trailing on 220.
In Div 2 Whalers are on 269 with Mervs Angels on 216.
Div 3 sees Moonlighters in the lead on 247 and Copper Coasters 2nd on 183.
This weeks Bay 3s Winners were Barry Howard, Peter Cameron and Les Gilbert, with a score of 31 plus 3..
Ladies Thursday Pennants - Both teams played away at Pt Elliot.
Div 1 were defeated 45-76 gaining 2 pts.
They are 3rd on the table.
Kathy Clarke's team had a win 25-15.
Div 2 also lost 43-61.
Heather Cochrane and Jean Jackson's teams had close games only going down by 2 shots each.
Port Elliot Bowls
Thursday Pennants - With all teams at home the club was abuzz with players from south coast clubs - many of whom knew their opponents.
Div 1 and 2 were playing Encounter Bay and Div 3 playing Victor Harbor.
Div 1. Players were pleased to score a win 76-45 and with 2 rinks up.
J. Lind 29-7/A.Faull 32-13, earned 10 very welcome points.
Currently 6th on the ladder with 2 good wins in the last two games of the competition the side could still reach finals.
Div 2. Also played a winning game versus Encounter Bay ( 61-43).
While one team maintained a good lead (H. Edwards 24-10), the other two were neck and neck throughout the game and in both rinks wins were not assured until the last ends. L. Fox 20-18/J. Cruise 17-15.
12 points were earned and with two games to go, the side holds 1st position with 94 points and with three other close contenders for the Minor Premiership (Victor Harbor 84,Myponga 81, Aldinga Bay 80, PEBC will be looking to consolidate their position.
Div 3's game against Victor Harbor was tight and resulted in a draw (36-36 and 5 points each).
C. Brindal 23-16/I. Hurren 13-20.
Currently 4th and just 12 points ahead of Victor Harbor, this side will strive for a good win in this week's away game against Strathalbyn.
No Saturday Pennants this week due to the Tour Down Under.
The Port Elliot Bowling Club held its Australia Day 'True Blue Trophy' competition on Monday, January 27 and it was once again a huge success.
The trophy was donated by Sue Bridgwood and her late husband Roger (who was club president at the time).
Competition for the trophy is played every Australia Day - with an accompanying true blue feast of pie floater in green pea soup, sausage sizzle and lamington.
Competition is keen and the game is played in festive spirit.

Winners of the 2020 Port Elliot Bowling Club True Blue Aussie Trophy was Chris Marsden, John Deal, June Barker, David Folkard and received the trophy from Sue Bridgwood - founder of the competition and donor of the trophy.
