Eight Fleurieu sports clubs will split $40,000 worth of state government funding to improve their equipment and programs.

The clubs which will receive funding through round 48 of the Active Club Program are Encounter Bay Cricket Club, Goolwa Hockey Club, Great Southern Swimming Club, Port Elliot Cricket Club, Victor Harbor Archery Club, Victor Harbor Lakers Basketball Club, and Victor Harbor Netball Club.

Each club is receiving $5000, the highest amount one can apply for through this round.

Member for Finniss David Basham said the clubs would use the funding to purchase sporting equipment or uniforms, or equipment used to maintain grounds and facilities, or to run programs which develops or improves services provided.

"Local sporting clubs play such an important role in the community, promoting good health through physical activity and providing social connections for people of all ages," Mr Basham said.

"Sport is integral to the culture of our country, our state and our local region. The South Australian Government recognises this contribution and supports local clubs through the Active Club Program and other initiatives.
