About 40 members of the McCracken Golf Club recently travelled to Kangaroo Island to present a cheque for almost $3000, to support the KI Mayoral Fund for bushfire relief.

This followed a fundraising day held at the club on the last weekend of January.

During its Saturday morning competition, the McCracken Golf Club declared that all monies and fees from the day would be donated to the KI Mayoral fund, and through various avenues, club members succeeded in raising $2700.

Club member Jim Lonergan said everyone involved was keen to support the cause and were extremely happy with the result.

"We wanted to further that support from the fundraiser and on Monday February 17, about 40 of us travelled over to present a cheque in person and support local business," said Mr Lonergan.

There, the golfers had lunch at the Ozone Hotel, where Kangaroo Island mayor Michael Pengilly thanked them for their donation and discussed the current issues facing the Island during the bushfire recovery process.

General manager of the Ozone, Mary-Lou Corcoran, also thanked attendees for their support of Kangaroo Island business.
