Several months after parting ways with their former controversial Chief Executive Mark Dowd, the City of Onkaparinga has finalised their hiring process and announced their new CEO.
Scott Ashby who has served in both the South Australian and Victorian public services since 1991 has been appointed as the new CEO of the City of Onkaparinga and is due to take up the position on Monday, April 27.
Regarding his appointment as CEO, Mr Ashby said his number one goal is to create a culture that supports our elected members and the organisation to deliver on their commitments to our communities.
"I look forward to working in partnership with the team and our communities to build an inclusive, approachable, collaborative, effective and responsive council with transparent and trusted leadership and good governance at all levels," he said.
"I'm committed to strong support for local businesses, encouraging new industries in hi-tech manufacturing, wine and tourism to drive job growth.
"I'm also focused on guiding more effective regional planning and development, to deliver an appropriate mix of housing that continues to attract families to Onkaparinga."
Mr Ashby also stated he had an interest in climate response, emission reduction, waste water re-use and sustainable management of the regions environment.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor, Erin Thompson said Scott's strong integrity, genuine enthusiasm and compelling vision for the city is what won him the role.
"He brings deep governance skills to the role and will support the introduction of further transparent processes and probity into the organisation.
"He also has extensive networks across all levels of government, the tertiary sector and industry that will be extremely valuable to us.
"Having worked in his family's business, and more recently with South Australia's food, wine, and agribusiness industries, Scott brings great commercial insight and an understanding of the needs of our business communities."
Adding that Mr Ashby's appointment to the role of CEO would be a new era for the City of Onkaparinga.
Mr Ashby's most recent role prior to this was as CEO of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA).
