The Adelaide Rally has been given the green light to roll through Myponga again this year.

At its May meeting, the District Council of Yankalilla had to approve the 2.5-hour closure of a section of Reservoir Road in order for the event's fourth stage to go ahead.

The Adelaide Rally is an annual event for people with classic cars to drive either competitively or non-competitively through the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, and Adelaide CBD.

The four-day event is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere; last year's rally had 324 entries.

Event director Tim Possingham made a deputation at the council meeting about the event including the course, safety, and community involvement, ahead of the vote on the road closure.

He assured councillors that the event was adequately insured, and that it would notify residents of the closure, facilitate the closure, and take responsibility for any damage caused during the event.

Elected members seemed satisfied with the processes in place and unanimously approved the road closure, which will take place on Reservoir Road from Forktree Road to Main South Road on Wednesday, November 25 from 1.45pm to 4.15pm.

Councillor Alistair Christie was happy to support the event because Mr Possingham's team was "not asking for a handout and taking full responsibility for their actions".

Councillor Simon Rothwell suggested getting the community more involved to see more local benefits would be ideal.

"It's been an event here numerous times over the years and it's been really successful," he said.

"I hope we can get more involvement in the future with a limited impact on the community."

Councillor David Olsson agreed, seeing it as a "challenge" for council to find ways to build on the event.
