Deep Creek road reserve to be closed, sold by council

The District Council of Yankalilla will close off a section of Rarkang Road at Deep Creek, with an aim of selling the land to the owner of an adjacent property.

At the May council meeting, elected members decided to continue with a process already underway and raise a road process order to close the sections of unmade road reserve and merge two sections of land to be sold to Ragnal Pty Ltd.

This process was first raised at the December 2019 council meeting, when elected members gave council staff the green light to "negotiate an agreement with the owner of the adjoining land to determine the terms of the road closure".

Once the closure is approved, the closed portions of road will be "sold to the owner of the properties with which they are merging".

The sale of the land equates to $3800 plus GST and all fees and charges associated with the road closure process.

The sale price was determined by an independent valuer.

With no objections from the public raised regarding the closure, the council approved the closure.

"It's an extension of the process we've decided on previously," councillor Leon Zarins said.

"I hope it's moving forward as it should be."
