Encounter Bay and Goolwa Bowls news and racing from the Southern Fleurieu Racing Pigeon Club

Encounter Bay Bowls: Presidents Open Pairs - Nearly 50 members hit the greens. Winners were Frank Bayley and Rod Jarvis. Runner up were Brian Chigwidden and Brian Hissey.

Thursday Social Bowls winners were Barry Hamilton and Paul Sunman and runner up were Mary Jarvis and Jill Cunningham.

Saturday Social Bowls - A big thank you to the birthday girl June Halstead and Greg Davis. Winners of the day were visitor Neil Laxton and Chris Price and second were Paul Sparre and Brian Mundy.

Goolwa Bowling Club: Well it's been a long time since bowling, but finally members are back on the green and it's "just like riding a bike" for some and for some others it's like riding a bike with "trainer wheels".

The pairs competition had 10 pairs on each of the two greens, with the winning pair on A green being Nic Crawley and Rob Kaplan from Bill Holman and John Lynch and the winners on the B green were Roger Hansen and Peter Ratcliffe from Frank Gibbons and Ted Ozols.

On Saturday was the first of the Open (drawn) three Bowls Triples day. Winners of the day were the team of Pat Willatts, Jan Jaenisch and K Richardson from D.Edwards, G.Dutton and A. Dean. Winners of the second game were Andrew Woods, P.Ratcliffe and Mal Borlase.

Beginning on Tuesday, 30-6 is the official opening to the Winter Season commencing at 10am with a Pie Lunch. Competition was on Wednesday, 1-7 starting at 12 noon and on Saturday, 4-7 also starting at 12 noon.

Pigeons

The Southern Fleurieu Racing Pigeon Club is off to a strong start this season and the club welcomes new member, Chris Infield from Taree NSW.

Chris will be watching the racing with interest this year and is currently breeding his race birds ready for next year. All the other members have their birds trained and in race form ready to take a winning position. The first race of the season was held on Monday, June 22, from Warnertown.

Five flyers sent 29 birds which were released at 9.30am with 1885 Adelaide racing pigeons. On route the birds encountered south westerly winds to 25 kph. First loft to clock was Rhubarb Racing Loft with a fly time of 4hrs 39mins 45secs with a winning velocity of 937 meteres per minute or 56 kph. Next was G. Leverington 4hrs 34mins 08secs and Ida Bay Loft 7hrs 09mins 05secs.

Saturday, June 27, saw the SFRPC fly the Carrieton race. Six flyers sent 62 birds which were released at 9.30am with 2901 Adelaide racing pigeons.

First loft to clock was Rhubarb Racing Loft with a fly time of 3hrs 44mins 01secs and a winning velocity of 1550 metres per minute or 93 kph. Next was W. and K. Moyle 3hrs 46mins 48secs, B Lintern 3hrs 59mins 05secs, E Joy 4hrs 00mins 06secs, Ida Bay Loft 4hrs 04mins 25secs then G. Leverington 4hrs 04mins 13secs. Next weeks race is a double header from Hawker and from Tintinara.
