Cyclist arrested for assaulting elderly woman

A male cyclist has been arrested following the alleged assault of an elderly woman in Victor Harbor.

At about 7am on Sunday August 30, a woman in her 70s was walking her dog along the footpath of The Esplanade near Island Street.

A man riding a bike along the same footpath allegedly threatened the woman before ramming his bike into her, pushing her backwards and causing her to fall over.

The elderly woman broke her wrist in the incident has since been treated in hospital.

Following a police investigation aided by an appeal to the public for information, a 73-year-old man from Victor Harbor was arrested on Thursday, September 17, and charged with aggravated assault causing harm.

He was bailed to appear in the Victor Harbor Magistrates Court on November 2.

A spokesperson for Victor Harbor Police said they thanked members of the local community, "who came forward with information which assisted with the investigation".

A call for information regarding the alleged assault was published in The Timeson September 4.

The victim had been aided by a couple who were passing by at the time of the incident.
