Zonta Club of Fleurieu Peninsula Inc member Margaret Stephens urges women to nominate for the achievement award.

In November each year the Zonta Club of Fleurieu Peninsula acknowledges women of the Fleurieu Peninsula who have made a difference to the lives of others through their contribution to their community by presenting a Woman of Achievement Award.

The Woman of Achievement is an unsung hero within, or with a background in the Fleurieu Peninsula, without whose efforts other persons/communities would not have achieved success.

Eligible women may have pursued a passion in volunteering, education, mentoring, community development, sport, the arts, creativity, life skills or business.

The award is presented at the November dinner meeting of the Zonta Club and the recipient will be gifted $250 to donate to a charity of her choice that supports women and girls.

The nominee should be either a visionary leader - a woman who has been a major voice in the concept, design and implementation and/or promotion of a project that has helped to solve an issue or community need, or has provided the leadership to implement someone else's idea; or a community volunteer worker - a woman who volunteers for more than one activity, is reliable and committed, gets the job done, but doesn't take the lead, nor seek kudos; or a mentor - a woman who has mentored other women (formally or informally), and in the process built relationships, shared skills and knowledge in a respectful way, based on mutual respect over a number of years, and thus has made a real difference.

The nominee must be a resident of Alexandrina, Yankalilla or City of Victor Harbor council areas, or have attended school in these areas, not previously or recently been recognised for the achievement for which she is nominated and not be a member of Zonta or have received this or any National or State community service recognition award in the last five years, for the work for which she is nominated.

Nomination forms are available by contacting Lesley Sporn 0438 003 572.

Completed nominations may be emailed to zontafleurieu@yahoo.com, or mailed to Zonta Club of Fleurieu Peninsula, PO Box 468, Victor Harbor, 5211. Nominations close Friday, November 6.
