Encounter Bay, Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor bowling clubs are on the greens in 202/21

Port Elliot

On Thursday, October 15, the Division 1 Ladies Pennants were played. It was played against Victor Harbor under blustery conditions and a very close match ensued at Port Elliot. The Port Elliot girls came out winners 61-57 plus 10 points. H Edwards 19 - 18, H Taylor 27 - 15, A Faull 15 - 24.

In Division 2 Port Elliot travelled to Aldinga Bay, putting up a sustained attack, however Aldinga successfully grabbed the 10 points, defeating Pt Elliot 62 - 56. L Fox 15-19, L Trenerry 21-25, D Price 20-18. In Division 3, Aldinga Bay forfeited to Port Elliot.

Pennant Results from Round 2 on Saturday, October 17 in Division 1 saw Port Elliott defeat Victor Harbor Blue on home turf, 64-52. J. Gamble 22-21, I. McLeod 23-12, P. Cullen 19-19. In Division 2 Port Elliott played at Encounter Bay, losing to Encounter Bay Gold 71-47. A close game, but not quite good enough on the day. I. Herron 15-15, R.Wattison 12-34, D.Wright 20-22.

In Division 3 Port Elliott defeated Goolwa Black 88-32, a convincing win played at home. H.Taylor 36-7, A.Faull 25-15, E.Taylor 27-10. 10 points going to Port Elliott. In Division 4, played at Strathalbyn, Port Elliott defeated Strathalbyn 61-60. L.Fox 22-19, I.Love 23-17, L. Trenerry 16-24. In Division 5, Port Elliott went down to Encounter Bay 54-69. G. Trenerry 17-21, T. Gunnell 12-26, S. Taylor 25-22.

Wednesday Morning's Supa Pairs played on October 14, had Overall Winners - G.Mellor/B.Smallacombe. Overall and runner up - C.Fidock/R.Hansen. First Game Winners - D.Cammack/P.Chapman. Second Game Winners - C.Monk/E.Elf.

Wednesday Afternoon Supa Pairs results - Overall Winners G.Hancock/P.Cullen. Overall Runner up J.Purvis/T.Hogg. First Game Winners J.Gamble/G.Edwards. Second Game Winners R.Lind/B.Trowbridge.


On Thursday, October 15 was the first pennant match of the new season for the Great Southern Ladies bowlers and Goolwa Ladies were out in force, but with very mixed results.

Div.1 team travelled to Encounter Bay, returning with a very disappointing 2 points. Div.2 were being hosted by the Strathalbyn Ladies and did considerably better returning with very valuable 8 points.

Div.3 hosted Yankalilla black and did marginally better, holding on to 10 points.

On Saturday, October 17, was the second round of OG pennants, which saw some very disappointing results coming in. Div.1 Black was home to Encounter Bay resulting in very disappointing 2 points. Div.1 White was away to McLaren Vale, which is always a difficult venue, came home with no points.

Div.2 home to Encounter Bay did the club proud by holding on to all 12 points. Div.3 Black was at Port Elliot returning with no points. Div.3 White hosted McLaren Vale and did very well to keep 8 points. Div.5 was home to McLaren Vale and made a huge improvement on last week by keeping 10 points. Our only Div.6 side travelled to Milang, but only managed to return with 2 points.

On Saturday, October 17, the social open competition was won by D.Edwards, H.Ward and L.Hughes, with the winners of the second game being Graham Cowling and Brian Wright

Twilight and Night Owl competition got under way on 15/10 and some 40 plus teams took to the greens, with Twilight competition having to be cut short when the rain squall hit, fortunately it did not last long, so did not totally ruin the Night Owl competition.

The other major bowling news coming up is the 'Presidents Invitation 4's' on Monday 26/10 commencing at 10am, so get your entries in early to avoid disappointment.

The week started with the much anticipated 'Geoff Stock Skins' event with 30 teams from metro and country areas in attendance. Sponsors of the day were South Coast Windows & Doors, Specsavers, and South Coast Sand & Civil. The big winners were Peter Cullen's team (PE), with Frank Bayley (EB) and P Cavendish (Two Wells) sharing the spoils in the top rink.

Winners at Super Triples on Thursday were Justin McMillan, Royce Munn and Ian Morris, with Max Davies, Nik Pippos and Eric Secomb second. Week 1 of Ladies Pennant began with Div 1 away to Port Elliot and, despite a good win to Lyn Thatcher and a 1 shot loss to Shirley Koch, the team went down by 4 shots. Div 2 at home to Milang had a big win. Div 3 played McLaren Vale at home and powered away with a 17 shot victory.

Saturday Pennant saw Div 1 Blue travel to Port Elliot. Mick Hallion secured a draw and Fred Kelly went down by 1 shot. Only 1 point for the day. Div 1 White were at home to Strath and suffered a similar loss with only John Brown's rink shining with a 9 shot win. Div 2 achieved 2 points against Willunga courtesy of a solid win to Kevin East.

Div 3 travelled to Milang and came home with 10 points as a result of solid wins to Ian Sellars and Bronwen Mullen. Div 5 were away to Myponga and scored 10 points with excellent wins to John Florance and Jeff Hollitt. Div 6 also met Myponga away and suffered a 5 shot loss overall.

An enjoyable afternoon in the club's Saturday Social Bowls competition. Coming in 1st place was evergreen M Brownrigg, in 2nd place was reliable D Smith and in 3rd place was G Dellaert.

All are welcome to play in our social competition by either phoning the club on the Saturday morning before play between 9am and 10am on 8552 1380, or call into the clubrooms during the week and put your name down to play.

No need to have own bowls. Beginners welcome.

Encounter Bay 

It was a sea of pink at the Encounter Bay Bowling Club on Monday, October 12. The Ladies Pink Day was sponsored by South Coast Realty and McCracken Country Club. More than 120 Ladies enjoyed a day on the green with delicious morning tea, lunch and afternoon served by the Men of the Encounter Bay Bowling Club.

Brenton Nockolds and Ken Ninnis from South Coast Realty and Stuart Riddell from McCracken Country Club were on hand to present prizes. Winners were Bronwyn Mullen, Lyn Thatcher, Heather Briggs and Chris Sutton. Runners up were Joy Fuller, Connie McArdle, Nancy May and Sandra Nash and third were Annie Atkinson, Chris Hutchinson, Rosemary Prosdicime and Erica Hutchinson. Best 1st Game prize went to Jenny Collett, Bev Walker, Marlene Richman and Anne Calvert. Best 2nd Game winner was Vicky Roberts, Mary Jarvis, Jill Horner and Jill Cunningham.

First of the season's Ladies Monthly Triples and the overall winners were Reata Win-Tapscott, Joan Hammond and Connie McArdle on 56.5 plus 28, 2nd were Dot Birt, Liz Higginson and Heather Hutchins on 55.5 plus 19 and 3rd were Yvette Wells, Joan Mann and Joy Mundy on 55 plus 19.

Bay 3s sponsored by Beaumont Tiles, Victor Harbor winners were Geoff Watkins, John Guy and John Kuhl, runner up Ian Warner, Ian Templetonand Jeff Lambe and third Roger Watt and Barry Howard.

The first day of Thursday Pennants was very successful for Encounter Bay. Div 1 defeated Goolwa 60-56 gaining 10 premiership points. June Halstead's team had a very satisfying win of 25-14. Div 2 also had a win, defeating McLaren Vale 62-52 gaining 8 points. Dot Birt and her team gained a score of 31-15.

The first night of the EBBC Night Owl season took place and was very well supported. 27 teams will make up the 3 divisions. A further six people signed up on the night, some immediately enlisted into teams, while others were involved in coaching sessions.

The new Night Owl co-ordinators were kept very busy on their first night, but have promised to be more relaxed for the next session of Night Owls. The winners of the night were Scotch on the Rocks in Div 1, Fig Jam in Div 2 and The Virgins in Div 3.

There were 27 bowlers out for Saturday Social Bowls sponsored by Rosetta Village. The winners, with amazing scores, were Barry Hamilton (welcome back), Pat O'Connell and L. Blight on 34 plus 21, 2nd were John Hewitt, Warren Watkins and Bob Birt on 34 plus 16. Won 3 lost 2.

As usual, Open Gender Pennants were a mixed bag. Div 1 defeated Goolwa Black 57-53 gaining 10 pts. Andy Seymour's team picked up a 6 in the last end making for an exciting finish. Div 2 Blue unfortunately lost to Goolwa 43-75. Div 2 Gold had a pleasing win over Pt Elliot 71-47 gaining 11 pts. They are currently 2nd on the premiership table. Barry Clarke's team had a good score of 34-12. Div 4 lost to McLaren Vale 57-62 gaining 2 pts. Ian Warner's team scored 24-16. Div 5 defeated Pt Elliot 69-54 gaining 10 pts. Geoff Watkins team scored well with 26-12.
