Two 11-year-old girls were arrested after allegedly lighting two fires at McCracken on Saturday afternoon, March 6.

Fire crews were quick to respond to the two fires: one in a reserve and another in a paddock near Riverway Court.

While grass was burnt, there was no threat or damage to nearby properties as the fires were put out before they had the chance to spread.

The fire in the paddock blackened about 1000 square metres of grass.

Information given by witnesses enabled police to quickly locate two local girls they believe were responsible for the incidents.

They were arrested and charged, and will be dealt with by the Juvenile Justice System.

The public is urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity of any kind immediately on the police assistance line on 131 444.
