Prioritising a liveable, green and connected district over the next 20 years is the vision of Alexandrina Council, who recently endorsed their '2040 Community Strategic Plan' (A2040).

Following a detailed community consultation period which began in March 2019, elected members backed the plan at their recent February meeting.

As part of a four-year delivery program, the council will host a series of Village Conversations and Village Innovation Plans for all townships and localities in the district.

Alexandrina Chief Executive Officer Glenn Rappensberg said the long journey to establish A2040 had resulted in the development of a proactive and informative approach to strategy development.

"The community have made their priorities for action clear. We have realigned our suite of plans to ensure that decisions with respect to resources, service levels and capital works are led by the three aspirational themes of Liveable, Green and Connected and five key action areas: Climate Response, Appropriate Growth, Community Inclusion, Transport Connections, and Environmental Innovation," Mr Rappensberg said.

"Hearing the voice of community and leveraging the knowledge of leading experts, Alexandrina has been able to deliver a collaborative and innovative approach that clearly articulates our future cause, action and impact as seen through the eyes of our community.

"A2040 puts our future in the hands of the community - in particular Village Innovation Planning will see a new approach to the way we work."

As part of developing the A2040 plan, more than 2000 residents and visitors provided feedback to the council, informing the plan's scope and focus.

Detailed through "a story-telling narrative", Mr Rappensberg said the plan would help guide and influence future Long Term Financial Plans and Asset Management Plans.

Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes said he encouraged the community to embrace A2040 and look toward a new future for the district.

"We have a unique and very special region. Our community is invested and enthusiastic about our future, and we are really excited to be on a prosperous journey towards 2040," Mr Parkes said.

"Our consultation was well received and with this plan in place, we can now work together to ensure Alexandrina is an even better place to live, work and play by 2040."

The council will soon announce the dates and times of Village Conversations which will run throughout 2021. The A2040 Community Strategic Plan can be viewed via: mysay.alexandrina.sa.gov.au/a2040
