The choir had it's beginnings in 1988 as a double quartet within the Encounter Bay Probus Club and in 1989 men outside of Probus expressed an interest in becoming a part of the choir and were encouraged to join.
This new development established the choir as a community based organisation, drawing on the whole of the Fleurieu Peninsular for membership and became the Fleurieu Male Choir in 1991.
The choir has developed a wide repertoire of music, from the traditional folk and Christian songs, to modern show tunes and popular Australian songs.
It performs throughout the year around the Fleurieu Peninsula and beyond.
Their unique tones can be heard in retirement homes and for many charitable and community based organisations.
In earlier years the choir has participated with other Male Voice Choirs in South Australia, in massed choir festivals held in the Festival Theatre, the Convention Centre, and other venues such as Tanunda.
The choir also continues as a member of the South Australian Country Choral Association and in this capacity they were pleased to participate in their pre COVID festival in Victor Harbor in 2016 and hope to again join with other choirs at their next festival when it is able to occur.
Weekly rehearsals are held in Yilki Uniting Church hall at 1.30pm on Thursday afternoons. Current membership stands at 16 voices and new voices are always welcome.
The choir would welcome inquiries from any men who would like to join them in 2021.
Tenor voices are particularly needed to maintain the balance in the choir, but Bass voices are also valued.
