After more than six years as Mayor of the District Council of Yankalilla, Glen Rowlands chaired his final meeting on Tuesday, June 15.
At the council meeting on April 18, Mr Rowlands announced his intention to retire from the position of Mayor at the June council meeting and that is exactly what he did.
Mr Rowlands will remain as an elected member and deputy mayor Simon Rothwell has been voted the incoming Mayor. Councillor Leon Zarins was voted in as the new deputy mayor.
Mr Rowlands thanked the chief executive and councillors for their support.
"The highlight besides the engagement we have had with our community and the projects we have achieved has been the appointment of the chief executive Nigel Morris," Mr Rowlands said.
"The CE empowered staff and I thank him and the staff at the council. We have not satisfied everybody, but we have achieved so much.
"There is so much respect among the fellow councillors."
Incoming Mayor Simon Rothwell said he had been a councillor for 11 years and it would be a pleasure to lead the group.
"Glen has given great direction over the years and given councillors great flexibility at meetings to help make decisions and gain the relevant information," Mr Rothwell said.
