The Great Southern Football League Women's (GSFLW) competition was strongly represented at the SA leg of the AFL Women's (AFLW) Draft Combine, with two of the eight participants hailing from the league.
Abbie Ballard, who plays for West Adelaide in the SANFL Women's (SANFLW) and Strathalbyn in the GSFLW, and Tahlita Buethke, who plays for South Adelaide in the SANFLW and McLaren in the GSFLW, were both invited to take part in the combine ahead of the AFLW draft.
The SA leg of the draft combine was held at Nazareth Catholic College and SA Athletics Stadium in Adelaide on Sunday morning, July 18.
Buethke placed top of the pack in the agility test, completing it in 8.517 seconds, while Ballard was incredibly close behind on 8.575 seconds.
Buethke also came second in the 20-metre sprint, with a time of 3.342 seconds; first was fellow Panther Gypsy Schirmer with 3.295 seconds.
Schirmer was a strong competitor, finishing second in the standing vertical jump with 45cm, third in the agility test with 8.618 seconds, and third in the running vertical jump (right) with 48cm.
The AFLW draft will be held on Tuesday, July 27.
