The Probus Club of Port Victor Combined's September meeting was one of happy catch-ups, after the last two meetings were cancelled due to COVID-19 regulations.

Five new members were inducted and welcomed to the club: Pauline and Rob Rattray, Jeff and Tina Falcon-Harvie, and Christine Carter.

President Fay Buckley spoke eloquently of Richard Cook, a member who recently passed away.

The guest speaker was Steve Bell, an experienced mountaineer of some note who has led various climbing expeditions to many interesting places including Mount Everest.

He told of his moving experience on Everest in having to leave a member of his group on the mountain, after he had run out of oxygen and there was no more to be had, only to have him miraculously turn up late after being rescued by another team.

It was an absolutely fascinating talk.

The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 10am in Carrickalinga House, Victor Harbor.

Newcomers are always welcome to join.
