The Great Southern Netball Association held its grand final day on Saturday, September 11, at the Strathalbyn courts and spectators and players came from the four corners of the region.

Victor Harbor took out the big prize in the League game defeating Willunga by 17 goals, but in the other divisions fortunes were shared throughout the association.

In Under 11 Division 2 (B) Strathalbyn 9 lost to McLaren Vale Blue 13. In a tightly fought game over all four quarters, McLaren Vale came out as victors. Tight defensive pressure all over the court and accurate shooting gave McLaren Vale the edge over a strong Strathalbyn team who played well all season. Congratulations to McLaren Vale.

In Under 11 Division 2 Willunga Red 17 lost to Langhorne Creek 23. Both teams came out strong, but the underdogs Langhorne Creek, fought hard to keep the lead. Overall, a very well-matched game with Langhorne Creek coming away with an amazing 6 goal win.

In Under 11 Division 1 Willunga 28 defeated McLaren Vale 15. It was a very tightly contested game. Willunga were strong and creative in attack. McLaren were tight in defence with good pressure throughout the game. Accurate and impressive shooting from both teams. Lots of talent amongst both teams, Great Southern have a bright future. Winners Willunga 28-15.

In Under 13 Division 3 Willunga 18 lost to Mt Compass 19. Both teams played well. There was great sportsmanship shown by both teams. There was no rain- but plenty of sunshine for all four quarters.

In Under 13 Division 2 Willunga 22 defeated McLaren Vale 21. This season's grand final was tough and well fought from both McLaren Vale and Willunga. These two teams have been tough competitive all season with some great determination on both sides. The game was fought to the last seconds with Willunga pulling away by 1 in the end.

In Under 13 Division 1 Langhorne Creek 32 defeated Strathalbyn 20. Traditionally rivals on court and friends off. Strath vs Creek was always going to be tough. A strong start by Strath which saw Creek chasing. Sheer determination, accuracy and defence pressure helped the Creek achieve a great win in the end. What a great match.

Intermediate 4 Myponga 23 lost to Mt Compass 43. Some early nerves cleared to see a close 1st quarter. Compass held a nice 6 goal lead at the break. Myponga played hard in the 3rd quarter, but Compass ran away with a commanding lead in the 4th quarter. The end score did not reflect the close competition for most of the game. Well, done girls.

Inter 3 Langhorne Creek 28 lost to Mt Compass 36. These two teams hadn't met since round 5 after missing their second match due to 2 Covid-19 Non-Playing weekends, so it was hard to predict how the game would go. The first half was very even, with both teams' goal for goal, displaying tight defence, accurate shooting and plenty of voice. During the third quarter Compass too the lead, picking up loose balls and turning it over to lead by 5. The final quarter continued to be a tight battle between both teams, neither giving up until the final whistle. The score see-sawed, but Compass came out eventual winners by 8 goals.

Inter 2 Willunga 28 lost to Langhorne Creek 30. Both teams started strong. Langhorne Creek had excellent defensive pressure all throughout the game. Willunga had great attacking, power. Langhorne Creek came out with the win.

Inter 1 Victor Harbor 34 defeated Langhorne Creek 30. Victor settled early and took control of the first quarter with excellent shooting by Harriet and Paige. Creek responded towards the third quarter as Stella Hall continued to turn the ball over for her team. Victor remained composed and brilliant defence by Leah and Taleah kept them ahead to take the win by 4. Well, done to both teams on a high standard of netball. Go Victor - 3 in a row!

Senior 6 Goolwa 23 lost to McLaren Vale 30. The sun was shining on Vale today in a hard-fought game by both teams. As a grand final should be, Vale played four consistent quarters of netball. The goals see-sawed throughout the game but Vale stood strong and had an exceptional third quarter to take the lead and held onto it throughout the last quarter. For Senior 6 it was a brilliant game to watch with both teams giving it their all. Thank you to the umpires, scorers and timers. Well, done Vale! Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!!!!

Senior 5 Langhorne Creek 41 defeated Myponga 33. Creek were first to settle, but Myponga fought back to be even at the first break. Creek had a strong second quarter to take an 8-goal advantage at half time. Both teams made changes, but Creek won the day by 8. A strongly fought game played with great spirits. Congratulations to both teams.

In Senior 4 Yankalilla 27 lost to Myponga 40. Both teams started determined. Yank got the first turnover before Myponga settled into their game plan. A strong first quarter saw Myponga take a nine-goal lead at the break. Yankalilla won the second quarter by two taking advantage of turnovers created by strong circle defence.. Myponga played a strong second half with accurate shooting and all over the court pressure.

In Senior 3 Myponga 24 lost to Mt Compass 49. Wow! Did Mt Compass turn it on today. The whole team was extremely strong from the first whistle. Hayley McCade played her 350th senior game in complete class, with a combined 1980 games between the Compass girls, the experience sure did show.

Myponga put up a good fight and unfortunately couldn't match Compass on the day. Myponga shooters were sensational and very accurate, but the Compass mid court and defenders made it too hard to get into the hands of their shooters. Compass outright winners on the day.

In Senior 2 McLaren Vale 43 defeated Myponga 32. Great fight by both teams, played in true finals spirit. McLaren Vale storming home in the final quarter to win by 11.
