Sunday, September 19 saw the Southern Fleurieu Racing Pigeon Club fly the first of three Marree races. The distance from Marree to Victor Harbor is approximately 650 kms with one flyer sending 11 birds to the race.
The birds were released at 6.30 am with 1311 Adelaide racing pigeons into a fine morning with clear skies and no wind.
Along the journey home the birds had light cloud cover with north winds at Leigh Creek 5kph, Port Augusta north north west 22 kph, Port Wakefield west 29kph and Adelaide Airport west north west 32 kph.
At home was a north west wind at 21 kph, gusting to 43 kph with a 70 per cent blue sky as the birds were approaching home. RRL clocked his hen bird at 3.54 pm with a fly time of 9hrs 24mins 38secs with a velocity of 1158 metres per minute or 69 kph. Next week's race is from Marla on the north west line and is the longest race on the program.
