Encounter Bay maintained its dominance in the Senior Colts competition by defeating Willunga by 16 points on Saturday at Yankalilla oval.
It was not easy going for the blue and gold, as Willunga matched the hot favourites and never let them get away to a big lead in the second half. It did threaten to blow out, but Willunga did not quit.
There was a breeze favouring the golf course end, but it was still possible to score against it and that is what the Bays did. Drury and Hams scored goals for Willunga in the first quarter and Baxter and Wenham scored for the Bays. It was Willunga by two points at quarter time.
In the second, Encounter Bay had their game going with Christophers, Burrows, Smit, Sutcliffe, Brown and Hills getting the footy and Pearsons being dynamite up forward. He bagged four goals for the quarter and had his team up by 21 points at halftime. Hayter, until injured, was a force across half forward.
Willunga fought back through Hugh Daniell, who was close to best on the ground and with goals to Hoeck, and Keely Daniell, the margin was cut back to 16 points at the last change.
Willunga just could not bridge that gap in the last term, as Smith, Bennett, Amos and Bekkers joined the fight with Daniell. Wenham for the Bays kicked the sealer with his third and it was all over. The Barry Clarke medal for best on ground went to Jayden Christophers.
