Fleurieu Salvation Army captains Nathan and Kylie Hodges were moved by the support that the Salvos received in blankets donations for the homeless and needy from this community during what could be described as a very cold winter.
"The support was amazing and as this was our first winter in this area, we were overwhelmed at the true community spirit of giving to this worthy cause. Over the winter months we had received over 150 blankets donated through two wonderful sponsors; the ANZ Bank in Victor Harbor and South Coast Realty also in Victor Harbor," Nathan said.
South Coast Realty held a 'Winter Blanket Appeal' and they organised for Sea Breeze Services to launder the blankets before they were handed on to the Salvation Army.
The Victor Harbor branch of the ANZ Bank also ran a 'Winter Appeal' and blankets were dropped off at the bank to be picked up by the Salvos.
"We have been able to provide these blankets to members of our community who were doing it tough throughout the cold winter and through the support of these local businesses we were able to ensure more of our needy community was kept warm," Kylie said.
"I would like to say a big thank you to both South Coast Realty and the ANZ Bank."
Nathan also thanked members of the community who had crocheted and quilted blankets on a regular basis for the appeal.
"There are a few remaining blankets which will be handed out if the need arises and any blankets left over from the winter appeal will stock the shelves for when the cold weather returns next year," he said.
