The Great Southern Badminton Association (GSBA) held its 2021 grand final at Investigator College Victor Harbor Campus Performing Arts and Sports Centre.

It was a night of high excitement and drama.

McDonalds Victor Harbor's Dale Sheridan, Simon Brayford, Estelle Brayford, Bohdi Sheridan, Sandie Sierke, Joe van Dalen, Duncan Andrews, Gavin Daniell and Adam Daniell scored 368 points to defeat Victor Podiatry Centre's Lochlan Hodge, Jacob Dugmore, Amanda Stevens, Luke Hodge, Lyn Hodge, Allan Brown, Brett Vermuelen, Rodney Beswick and Norm Scott with 319 points.

It was a very close contest between the two teams with seven of the total 18 games decided by the minimum possible winning margin of 2 points. Dale, Simon, Estelle and Sandie all finished the night level with their respective direct opponents Lochlan, Jacob, Amanda and Lyn with all eight players involved in two wins and two defeats.

The point of separation between the two teams ended up being determined by Joe with three wins out of four games along with Bohdi, Gavin and Adam, who all remained undefeated at the end of the night ensuring McDonalds Victor Harbor were the 2021 premiers and in doing so the team earned its place in GSBA history with recognition on the Fuller/Squires Premiers Board.

Runner up: Victor Podiatry Centre - Allan, Lochlan, Lyn, Norm, Luke, Jacob, Amanda and Rodney. (absent Brett).

Some of the great doubles scores saw Lyn/Allan 25 defeat Sandie/Joe 23, Amanda/Lochlan 21 defeat Estelle/Dale 21-15, Lochlan/Jacob 23 d Dale/Simon 21 and Adam/Joe 21 d Norm/Allan 19.

The singles games were some of the most competitive games seen all season, where Jacob made great inroads after a 0-5 slow start to level the game at 20 all before Simon found a couple of well placed shots at the right time to secure a 22-20 win.

Young guns Bohdi and Luke went at it again, this time Bohdi secured the win 21-16 to square their ledger for the season.

Amanda managed to hold off the ever improving Estelle 21-18 and in one of the most exciting and animated singles matches of the season, Dale hung in for a very hard earned 25-23 victory against the GSBA's up and coming new top dog Lochlan.

The GSBA will hold it's end of season presentation dinner at the Grosvenor Hotel on Saturday, October 9.

Weekly Tuesday social badminton will be held across the summer between 6pm to 9pm at Investigator College. New members welcome. Call Tim on 0431 041 666 for inquiries.
