Whalers Peninsula Community Association (WPCA) held a successful Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 2. Due to inclement weather it was decided to cancel Sunday.

WPCA manager Mary McInnes thanked the Goolwa RSL Sub Branch for allowing use of the area for the event.

"I would encourage everyone to call in and support the RSL and the wonderful people there.

"It was an honour to have our Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes officially launch our major fundraiser project - EMOHROU, our home spelt backwards.

"We are aiming to purchase the shared accommodation property currently housing tenants who are perhaps down on their luck or simply needing assistance."

Over the years Whalers have been able to assist approximately 1000 people needing accommodation, both long term and short term.

The City of Onkaparinga Pipe Band entertained a large group with an amazing performance.

"We certainly appreciate those members giving up their time to support our cause," Mary said.

"Homemade Jam the local Ukulele group performed crowd favourites all day. Some young performers enjoyed their time on stage playing air guitar and singing along with the group.

"Thank you to everyone from Homemade Jam who gave up their time to support Whalers Peninsula Community Association.

"We are returning to our very popular quiz nights."

The next one will be held on Saturday, November 6, at 6.30pm for a 7pm start at the Goolwa RSL. BYO supper and bar facilities will be available. $10 per ticket. To book call Whalers office on 8555 2800.

"We accept good quality donations of clothing, furniture and brick-a-brack. If you have furniture that you would like to donate please phone the office to arrange for our volunteers to pick it up," she said.

"As a registered charity we rely on donations and support from our community. We strongly support the motto 'Local People Helping Local People' and gratefully appreciate the support we receive from our local community groups."

Whalers Peninsula Community Association is located on the corner of Gardiner and Gundagai streets, Goolwa.
