Acclaimed playwright Stephen House has three artistic projects in Goolwa

Stephen House is an acclaimed playwright who has travelled the world and over the next month he will bring India to the south coast.

In conjunction with Alexandrina Council, Stephen has three exciting projects that he has created to be presented at 1 Goolwa Terrace, Goolwa.

'Being in India', 'The Ajoona Guest House' and 'Performing a Piece' will be presented.

'Being in India' will run from October 23 to November 21 and will include the 'Artists Floor Talk on Saturday, October 23 at 2pm. It is an exhibition of images accompanying words created by Stephen while living in India.

'The Ajoona Guest House' will be on Saturday, November 20 at 7pm and is a sneak preview for those who attend. It will be the first glimpse of Stephen's latest work before touring. Stephen's latest monologue opens the door on a dangerously beautiful, hidden New Delhi world.

"Performing a Piece' is a workshop conducted by the award winning playwright, poet and actor on Sunday, November 21 at 11.30am. Stephen looks closely at the skills needed to present a piece of writing to an audience. The workshop will offer techniques and ideas to apply to a presentation.

Gallery hours will be Wednesday to Friday 11am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Stephen said he had a deep affiliation with the south coast.

"I am an old surfer and spent many of my teenage years sleeping in cars at Middleton, Port Elliot and Goolwa. The region means a lot to me and I have a great relationship with Alexandrina Council," Stephen said.

Stephen's resume is astounding and has had 20 plays and four short films produced and five Poetry and Image Exhibitions.

He has been commissioned often and has directed and performed his work widely. He has won two AWGIE Awards from The Australian Writers Guild, an Adelaide Fringe Award, The Rhonda Jancovic Poetry Award for Social Justice, The Goolwa Poetry Cup, The SA Writers Centre / Feast Short Story Prize and many press awards.

He was Shortlisted for The Lane Cove Literary Award Poetry Prize, The Patrick White Playwright Award, The Queensland Premier Drama Award, Overland's Fair Australia Fiction Prize, a Greenroom Best Independent Actor Award, many poetry prizes and commended for The Di Cranston Script Award.

Stephen has received International literature residencies from The Australia Council to Canada, USA and Ireland, an Asia-link literature residency to India and an Island Of Residencies to Tasmania.

His plays and poems have been published nationally and internationally. His poetry collection real and unreal was selected for The 2018 Chapbook Project and published by ICOE Press Australia.

Stephen has performed his acclaimed solo shows, 'Appalling Behaviour' and 'Almost Face To Face' widely.
