There is nothing better than seeing a young star burn so brightly and have the determination to realise major goals.
The Fleurieu Peninsula is littered with young aspiring sportspersons whose gifts and drive catapults them onto the big stage.
Charlie Nobbs is the latest achiever from the Fleurieu who is striving to be the best he can be in the game of golf.
Charlie Nobbs is only 16-years-of-age and is preparing himself for one of his biggest challenges.
However, it is a challenge he has been hoping for since the age of one and sees it as another step to his eventual goal.
Charlie loves the game of golf and is a member of the McCracken Golf Club and will play this month in the Victorian Open.
Charlie earned the right to play in the Open event after winning the Victorian Junior Open in 2021.
Charlie lives at Middleton and will travel anywhere to play the game.
It is a game he has loved all his life.
"I have been playing golf since I was one, but I have been playing seriously since I was 10," Charlie said.
"I am a member at The Vines and McCracken and I really appreciate the support I have received from both clubs."
Charlie's achievements include the Victorian Junior Open Champion, SA Junior Vardon Trophy winner and Golf SA High Performance Member.
These accolades are the stepping stones to where Charlie wishes to go.
"I have been selected to play in the 2022 Victorian Open by winning the Victorian Junior Open late last year," Charlie said.
"It will be my first professional event."
Charlie said his initial reaction on the invitation to play against professional golfers was one of shock and disbelief.
"I couldn't believe it at first, but now I am very excited to compete with professionals," he said.
The opportunity is one Charlie has always dreamed of and his plans are to make a career from the game.
"My goals are to turn pro and have a successful career on the PGA tour.
"It is my dream and I am aiming for it to come true," Charlie said.
"Golf is a great game and I love it because there is always something to learn about it."
With great golf courses on the Fleurieu Peninsula such as McCracken, Victor Harbor, Mount Compass, Links Lady Bay and South Lakes it is no wonder the region produces promising golfers like Charlie.
"It is a great region to learn to play the game and to continue to improve," he said.
